Thumbs up Hardware Store

Five tradesmen visited the local hardware store to buy a specific tool and take advantage of discounts on offer. The tools bought did not reflect upon their trade in any way at all.

The men were Billy, Dennis, George, Larry, and Philip.

The trades were electrician, engineer, mechanic, plumber, and technician.

The ages in years were 35, 40, 45, 50, and 55.

The tools were drill, hammer, saw, screwdriver, and wrench.

The discounts were 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%.

The men, trades, ages, tools, and discounts do not necessarily relate to each other in the order listed.

From this information and the following clues, for each tradesman, can you determine his trade, his age, the tool which he purchased, and the discount he received?

1) The mechanic is neither Dennis nor Larry.
2) Billy bought a tool with 20% off.
3) The man who bought a tool with 15% discount was the 40 years old electrician.
4) The 45 years old engineer bought the screwdriver.
5) The oldest man bought a drill.
6) The man who bought the hammer at 5% off was either Dennis aged 50 years old or the plumber.
7) George is the Electrician.
8) Philip bought a saw.
9) The man who got the best discount was either the 45 years old or the mechanic.
10) The plumberís discount was twice that of the mechanicís.

larry engineer 45 25 screwdriver
philip mechanic 35 10 saw

My pleasure and thanks for the compliment. Yes I do compile them myself but I wouldnít consider myself jolly clever. I find it relatively easy. I think of a theme and the solution, then work out the clues to arrive at the solution.
